Gauguin’s Early Painting

The Seine at Pont de Grenelle (La Seine au Pont de Grenelle) is one of the earliest known paintings by Paul Gauguin.  He signed and dated the painting, 1875, on the bottom right hand side of the painting.  The image depicts industrial buildings along the bank of the Seine.  The Seine at Pont de Grenelle is one of the few paintings Gauguin completed on a wood panel rather than on canvas.
